8th Grade

8th Grade at Greene Middle School

You have made it to the final year of Middle School. Congratulations! Enjoy your last year here, as you continue to prepare for high school.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, you can always contact individual teachers or the Team Leader, Mr. Bogardus, x 345, to make an appointment to meet with the entire team of teachers.

Don't forget to use the Homework Hotline and Home Access to stay up to date on your child's progress at school!! If your child is not yet into the habit of checking his or her grades online, I encourage you to have them start doing so!

8th Grade Course Schedule 2020-2021 School Year

Full Year Courses:

English
Math 8

Algebra (Based on teacher recommendation: Regents Exam taken at the end of the year; credit bearing high school course)
Science
Social Studies

Family and Consumer Science (FACS)--every other day for 1 semester (2 marking periods or 1/2 a year)

Physical Education (every other day)
Spanish or French (credit bearing high school course)

(continuation of language taken in 7th grade); Proficiency exam taken at the end of the 8th grade. A passing score on the Proficiency exam and successful completion of two years of a foreign language result in 1 high school credit being awarded.

Other Possible Courses:

ELA and/or Math Lab (students may receive based upon NYS test scores and teacher recommendation)
Resource Room (students may received based upon on needs outlined in IEP)

Elective Courses:

Music (Theater/Drama Elective)--10 week course offered for the first semester (marking periods 1 and 2), every other day.
Introduction to Electronics: every other day course
Band and/or Chorus **students are only allowed to add/drop band or chorus for the first Marking Period**
