Distinguishing Features of The Job: This is routine manual work involving responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the G.C.S. school grounds on three campuses and the bus garage. Work is performed under general supervision with some leeway allowed for the use of independent judgement in keeping the grounds up to approved standards. Supervision over the work of others is not normally a requirement of employees in this position. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities:
Operates power and hand equipment to mow and trim grass and hedges.
Cleans and performs minor maintenance to groundskeeping and sports equipment;
Accomplishes regular policing of grounds;
Empties outside trash containers and may operate a pickup truck to haul garbage and recycling to designated areas.
Rakes areas as required
Prepares and lines sports playing fields.
Maintains lines in the parking lots
Moves earth, sand and gravel as required;
Performs landscaping of grounds, plants and maintains trees, shrubs, and flower beds, edges and trims around walks, flower beds, trees, poles, bleachers, driveways, playing fields, parking lots and any other areas.
Moves playing field equipment as required
Performs exterior painting as directed
Shovels, or may operate a snow blower, tractor, snowplow to remove snow
May unload and stock cafeteria food shipments
May perform routine custodial job functions
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics: working knowledge of grounds maintenance activities; ability to operate lawn maintenance and snow removal equipment; ability to operate a motor vehicle; ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; ability to stoop; twist; and bend; ability to reach high, low and level; ability to follow oral and written directions; tact and courtesy in dealing with the public and co-workers; capable of performing the essential job functions of the position with our without reasonable accommodations
Minimum Qualifications: One year experience of park or ground maintenance activities
Note: Must possess NYS Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the employer’s insurance company at time of appointment continuing through employment.
