Mr. Wankel is the new Greene Middle School Principal, and he wanted to take this opportunity to share some details about himself with you, and thank the Greene community for such a warm welcome!
"My love of sports has brought me full circle. While growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan sports and the outdoors were my passions. After college I turned that love of sports into a job as a television sports anchor. I remained in that position for about 7 years before refocusing that passion to teach Video Production at Broome-Tioga BOCES for the next 18 years. At that point my daughter was headed to college, so I decided it was the right time to move into an administrative role at BOCES where I was the assistant principal in charge of the Evertech and Futures programs for two years.
Regardless of what my job was, I have always enjoyed working with kids. From college on I have coached youth sports and last winter I coached the 5/6 JRC girls’ basketball team. That coaching experience is what convinced me to take the jump to being the middle school principal. The players, parents, and community were all extremely positive in everything that we did.
The community has been awesome and more welcoming than I could have ever hoped. I’ve lived in the area for a couple of years, I love the community, and I want to make the middle school the place to be once again. My hope is that with the support of our amazing staff and community that our middle school will be able to make lasting relationships and set our students up for continued success."
