Jane I. Schenck College Loan Program
For high school students considering post-secondary education, I want to advise you of an opportunity extended to graduates of Greene Central School to participate in the Jane I. Schenck college loan program.
Miss Schenck was a former District Superintendent of Schools who left a major portion of her estate to assist high school graduates at Greene and Afton Central Schools with college expenses.
It is anticipated that up to $4,500.00 per year for up to four years will be available for graduates of Greene and Afton to borrow. Borrowers will be required to begin paying the loan off twelve months after leaving college.
Once again there is a provision that if you start paying the loan back within six (6) months of graduation, all interest (5%) will be waived on the loan.
Please understand that you should work through the Counseling Office in planning for your college expenses before applying for a Schenck Fund loan. Also, please understand that this is not a scholarship and that you will be expected to repay the loan so the funds will be available to others in the future.
Applications for Schenck Fund loans are available in the District Office and Guidance Office and must be returned at the beginning of June, to the Counseling Office to be eligible. If you have any questions, please reach out to the District Office or your School Counselor.
