The Greene Envirothon teams traveled to Ithaca on Wednesday September 27, 2017 and spent the day on Cayuga Lake. The Cayuga Lake Floating Classroom is a team of scientists who do research on the health of the Finger Lakes’ watershed communities. They take the time to teach kids how to do the scientific readings for water quality, plant and animal health and what to do with invasive species. The Greene Envirothon team used interesting equipment to measure water temperatures at different levels of the lake, water clarity, acidity and how much dissolved oxygen is in the water. They pulled plankton and water plants from the lake and identified local and invasive species using microscopes and identification cards. What a beautiful day to spend on the water learning about natural water systems that most people just consider excellent recreational spots. The students all learned to appreciate the Finger Lakes and other water systems closer to home with a new perspective.

The Greene Central School District, in an effort to eliminate a potentially dangerous situation during athletic events and after school practices, has installed medium sized rip rap along the driveway from the entrance of the stadium to the high school parking lot. We are asking that parents and spectators no longer use this area to park for events or to park and wait to pick up athletes. Parking in the area limits the drive to one lane and pedestrian safety is compromised. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.  [ for more]
