Regents Chemistry

Chemistry is the study of the composition, structure and properties of substances and the transformations that these substances undergo. Basically we will be spending the year answering these two questions: “What are things made of?” and “How and why does stuff change?”

The purpose of Regents Chemistry is to promote and produce, through lab experiences and classroom instruction, student mastery of the principles of chemistry and to relate the sometimes abstract concepts of chemistry to the students’
real-life experiences.

As a Regents course, each student must meet NYS the state requirement for successfully-completed laboratory exercises in order to take the Regents Exam. Refer to the Lab report Guidelines" and "GCS Lab Requirements" for specific details.  Lab experience will range from crystal-making to turning a penny into “gold.” Contrary to popular belief, there will be few instances of things “blowing up” in the lab.
