WELCOME TO THE ART ROOM

It is a privilege & a pleasure to be your child's Art Teacher. I love working with children, & I'm constantly inspired by by their enthusiasm & creativity.  I aim to make the Art Room a special place where children can explore, experiment,  discover & have fun!
 
In the Art Room, children:
  *Learn the foundations of Art
  *Work with a variety of materials
  *Learn a variety of techniques
  *Learn about various artists & their art
  *Learn about the art of various world cultures
  *Discuss & analyze Art to develop critical thinking  &
     vocabulary skills
  *Develop their creativity within a skill building structure
  *Participate in the Arts in Education Program
  *Participate in the Square 1 Art
 
 Throughout the year, student art work is exhibited in the Primary Building, in the District Office & in regional exhibits.

2017/18 School Year

Most of our projects were based on Storytelling, which  was our Arts in Education theme this year.  Students enjoyed hearing a wide variety of stories including: African Story About the Sun & the Moon, A Castle Full of CaI, Little Owl's Night Out, Mother Nature & the Evergreen Tree, Peppa Pig : Cold Wointer Day, The Perfect Day, Pout Pout Fish, The Pumpkin Farm, The Nutcracker, Nuts To You, A Short History of Tulips, Tacky the Penguin, Tar Beach & The Three Little Pigs.  Our projects included a wide variety of subjects including self portraits, animals, plants, cityscapes, landscapes, seasonal activities and the sun.  We also learned about some famous artists, including Claude Monet, Faith Ringgold & George Rodrigue, & we got ideas from their art.

Our lessons included related powerpoints, videos & displays, which we analyzed & discussed to gain understanding & ideas,  Lessons were multi-disciplinary in nature  & met the New York State Standards for Visual Arts.


Storytelling was a wonderful source of inspiration for us & it inspired us to make some awesome art!

2016-17 School Year

This year, "Let's Explore Nature" was our Arts in Education theme, & throughout the year students created art based on nature.  Projects were inspired by animals, insects, plants, landscapes & seasons with inspiration from artists such as Arthur Dove, Claude Monet, Georgia O'Keeffe, Vincent Van Gogh & Neil Welliver. Nature was a wonderful source for ideas that led to some awesome art work!

 Our lessons included  related PowerPoints, videos & displays which we analyzed & discussed to gain understanding & ideas.  Projects met the NYS Standards for Visual; Arts & supported aspects of the Common Core Curriculum.

 For RTI First Graders wrote original fairy tales & created backdrops & puppets, while Second Graders  wrote illustrated stories based on famous works of art & created puppets of characters in their stories.
 
This year our art work was displayed in the Primary Building,, the District Office, the K-12 Student Art Show, the Primary Buildings Arts in Education End of Year Celebration, at the UHS Children's Holiday Art Show (Binghamton) & the daVinci Exhibit (Binghamton).  Posters were also made for the annual Keep Greene Clean Day poster contest & a number of them were displyed in businesses in the village.
 
2015-16 School Year
In the 2015/16 School Year, our Arts in Education theme was "What's Special About Our Community", & students explored many different aspects of Greene.  We got ideas from nature, seasons, plants, people, animals, holidays, vehicles & professions.  Our lessons included instructional displays, videos & powerpoint presentations.  We used Visual Thinking Strategies to analyze art work, which helped to build critical thinking & vocabulary skills.  Projects met the NYS Standards for Visual Arts & supported the Common Core Curriculum.
 
First Grade RTI students worked on several projects which combined visual art, & literacy.  They developed original fairy tales, made backdrops & puppets, & performed for their classmates.  Music teacher, Mrs. Miller, & I collaborated on a musical puppet show based on the Jungle Book, which children performed for the entire First Grade.
 
Students also made posters for  Keep Greene Clean Day, & a number of these were displayed in businesses in the Village.

2014/15 SCHOOL YEAR
In the 2014/15 School Year our Arts in Education theme was Cultural Celebrations, & we learned about & explored a number of cultures & their art forms. We used a variety of materials  & created  projects inspired by the art from a number of countries  & regions including: China, Japan, India, England., Mexico, Central America, South America, the Middle East  & the United States.
Our lessons included related videos & displays which we analyzed & discussed to gain understanding & ideas.  Projects met the New York State Standards for Visual Arts & supported the Common Core Curriculum.
 
For 1st Gr RTI,  I collaborated with our music teacher, Mrs. Shoemaker  & with the students we developed musical puppet shows based on the Country Mouse & the City Mouse as well as The Jungle Book. These also supported the Arts Learning Standards & the Common Core Curriculum.

ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME Hello! My name is Donna Dajnowski  &  I  have been fotunate to be an Art Teacher here in Greeen  since 1998.  I have BAs in Fine Arts & Art History, an MA in Art History & certification in Art Education (K-12).  Before becoming a teacher, I worked as an educator & a curatorial assistant at Roberson Museum in Binghamton.
 
My husband & I live in Endicott.  We love traveling, & besides the great state of New York, some of our favorite places include New Orleans, Paris & Quebec City
 
I have so many interests, & a few of  them include making art, visiting museums & historic sites, cultural events,  the outdoors, cycling, reading.& animals.
